Is an STD rapid test reliable?
Our rapid tests are as reliable as an STD test through a laboratory. This is because the rapid tests are done on location with a PCR device, a machine that gives the result of the requested test within 2 hours. Because we do not depend on couriers in the process, we can guarantee fast results.
It is, however, the same technique used in the lab. The rapid test PCR device uses the highly sensitive nucleic acid amplification method to detect DNA or RNA from pathogens. This is part of the genetic material of a bacterium(chlamydia or gonorrhea) parasite(trichomonas) or virus(HIV). This way of testing is for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomonas the gold standard and many times more reliable than, for example, an STD rapid test that you read yourself at home. For HIV, this RNA test is even the earliest test you can reliably do, as early as 14 days after sex! So our HIV rapid test is special not only because of its quick results, but also because of its very early detection.
You make your own appointment very easily online or by calling us. During the appointment you will receive test advice from our doctor or nurse. After about 15 minutes you can stand outside again. You will receive the results by phone approximately 90 minutes later. You can also request a pdf of your results by mail.

Chlamydia + gonorrhea DNA rapid test
Results after 90 minutes. Reliable from 14 days after sex. In case of complaints also possible earlier.
- We test the penis/ urethra with urine. For this, you collect the first part of your jet. You must not have urinated for 1.5 hours before collection. Urine in a clean container/bottle may also be taken.
- We test the vagina and anus with a swab. You may take this yourself on the toilet during the appointment. It does not matter if you are menstruating.
- We test the throat with a swab. The doctor/nurse will take this for you.
HIV-1 RNA rapid test
Results after 90 minutes. Reliable from 14 days after sex.
- This test is done on blood. During the appointment, we take a small tube of blood from the elbow crease. Look here for more information on the different types of HIV testing.
Trichomonas vaginalis DNA rapid test
Results after 90 minutes. Reliable from 4 weeks after sex. In case of complaints, possible earlier.
- We can test the penis through urine. For this, you collect your first stream of urine after you have not urinated for at least 1.5 hours. You may also take it with you in a clean jar or bottle.
- We can test the vagina with a swab. You can take this yourself on the toilet. The test is also reliable during your period.
