GGD STD test: Free, but limited access
You can get a free STD test at the GGD, but not everyone is eligible. To qualify, you must belong to one of the following risk groups:
- Men who have sex with men (MSM)
- Sex Workers
- Young people under 25
- People who come from a country where STDs are more common and their sex partner
- People with many different sex partners
Keep in mind that the GGD is often busy at this time, which means you often have to wait several weeks before you can get an appointment. In addition, the exact rules regarding high-risk groups may vary by region. For example, some regions may offer free testing up to age 22 instead of 25. So check this for the GGD in your region. The results of a GGD test are usually available within a week.
GP: Cost through deductible
A consultation with the doctor is free (the consultation), but you have to pay for the STD test. This cost is usually covered by your deductible with your health insurance company. Although you pay nothing at the time of the test, the cost is later settled through your deductible. This can even be more expensive than having a test done at OneDayClinic, for example. By the way, if you are healthy and make no other claims on your deductible during a year, you are often cheaper at a private clinic.
OneDayClinic: Clear rates for various testing options
At OneDayClinic, you can have various STD tests performed at specific rates. For example, an STD test for the most common STDs, such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, costs 115 euros. A complete STD test, including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and blood tests for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C, costs 165 euros. If you want to be tested at different body sites, such as the throat or anus, there is an additional cost of 35 euros. There is also a rapid STD test available where results are available within 90 minutes, and it costs 225 euros. OneDayClinic uses transparent pricing, so you know in advance what to expect.
