How, What, Where to Test for STDs?

Our sexual health is a big part of life for many people. A fine sex life can contribute to a fine experience of one's own body, and it releases happiness hormones that make you feel happier. So a healthy game of sex! It is therefore nice to be fully informed about the ways that make sex most optimal. Good health of you and your sex partner, make that you can have sex with full devotion. Without worries. With that, it is fitting to have STD testing once in a while. But which testing method is best for you and where is the best place to get tested? Read on to find out.

Why different testing methods?

Not every STD manifests in the same way or within the same time frame. Some can be detected within as little as 10-14 days, while others need 6-12 weeks before they can be noticed. This is why different testing methods have been developed to get you fully and reliably tested. As soon as possible.

  1. STD rapid test

As the name suggests, the STD rapid test is designed for those who want instant results. After just 90 minutes, you can know if you:

  • Chlamydia of gonorroe hebt (getest via vagina, urine, keel of anus)
  • Een vroege HIV-infectie hebt (HIV RNA-test, effectief vanaf 14 dagen na seksuele contact, via bloed
  • Have Trichomonas (via vagina or urine)These tests are only available at OneDayClinic!
  1. Standard STD test

If you are willing to wait a little longer (1-3 business days) and/or for a more comprehensive check, then a standard STD package is what you need. These tests check for:

  • Chlamydia and gonorrhea (via vagina, urine, throat or anus)
  • HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B&C antibodies in the blood
  • Mycoplasma en trichomonas (vaginaal of urine)

Where should you get tested?

Now that you know what tests are out there, the next question is where is the best place to get tested?

There are the following options:

  • Your own family doctor
  • Municipal Health Service
  • Private clinic like OneDayClinic

What are advantages for many people in choosing OneDayClinic, over the family doctor:

  • With us, if you like, you can have STD testing done completely anonymously (with a made-up name/date of birth). The data is not shared with a general practitioner.
  • STD tests at the doctor's are unfortunately not free, tests are paid from your deductible. If you haven't used up your deductible yet, the costs through the doctor are often even more expensive than through us!

What are advantages for many people in choosing OneDayClinic, over the GGD:

  • Everyone is welcome to come to us for a consultation. The GGD has free testing facilities only for special groups ('risk groups' ). If you do not fall into these groups, you cannot come to the GGD. Risk groups that can test at the GGD: young people under 25, sex workers, men who have sex with men.
  • With us there is often room the same day or the day after if you want an appointment. Unfortunately, the GGD often has a long wait until you can go there.

Also, we have specialized doctors and nurses in sexual health and you can ask us anything. We are the only private clinic approved by Soa.Aids Netherlands and we are very proud of that!
