Pain in my vagina

Pain or an unpleasant feeling in your vagina is never nice. This painful feeling can be constant, but can also be provoked, for example, by sexual contact or urination, or, for example, inserting a tampon. Pain in the vagina is not normal and can have several causes. Here are some of them
Pain in my vagina due to a fungal infection
A vaginal yeast infection (Candida) can cause vaginal pain. It is especially noticeable that women complain of itching and irritability. Often you have a vaginal yeast infection also changed secretion, which is often white and crumbly.
The itching caused by the vaginal fungus can sometimes cause you to scratch, however, this scratching in turn causes more irritation of the skin. This can lead you into a vicious cycle. Pain==> less excitement==> dry vagina==> damage==>even more pain.
Vaginal fungus can get you because the pH of your vagina changes, this can be due to blood during menstruation. But also if you wash your vagina with (vaginal) soap, use vaginal showers or vaginal deodorant you change the pH of your vagina which makes it easier for a fungus to grow. Therefore, only rinse your vagina on the outside with water and do not use special cleaning products.
If you suffer from vaginal fungus, contact your doctor. He or she can prescribe you medication to prevent the fungus.
Pain in my vagina due to an STD
Pain in my vagina due to vaginal dryness or medication
There are several causes that keep your vagina dry, this can be due to:
- Not being excited enough
- by various medications e.g. cholesterol inhibitors
- hormonal changes (e.g., menopause or after pregnancy)
When you have sex but your vagina is not yet moist enough, or you are fingered and the vagina is not yet moist enough, this can damage or irritate the lining of the vagina. As a result, you may continue to suffer from vaginal pain after these acts. It is important before performing sexual acts to make sure that you are sufficiently aroused. Should this fail, it is always wise to use sufficient lubricant. Always use a lubricant that is as neutral as possible, if you use one with a lot of added fragrance it can lead to vaginal fungus!
If you suffer from altered discharge and you don't know if this is due to an STI you can always visit Onedayclinic. Make an appointment at 1 of our locations. Better safe than sorry!
