Step-by-step plan for an STD test

It is important to regularly test for STIs if you are sexually active and have changing partners. You can get STIs by having sexual contact. Sometimes they cause symptoms, but often they don't. By getting tested, you can find out whether or not you have an STD. After all, no one wants to carry an STD unnoticed and unintentionally pass it on to other sexual partners. But how does an STI test work? And how can you prepare yourself properly for the consultation? We explain it to you!
When can you test for which STD?
Preparing for the appointment
For men, or people with a penis, we test chlamydia and gonorrhea via urine. In this case, it is important not to urinate 2 hours before the appointment in order to test as reliably as possible. An alternative is to collect your morning urine and bring it with you to the appointment. For women, or people with a vagina, chlamydia and gonorrhea are tested vaginally. You may take this vaginal swab yourself in the toilet and if you don't want to, the doctor will take it for you. For HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C we have to take blood through a prick in the elbow crease. The needles we use are always new and cannot be reused. It is recommended that you drink enough beforehand to make the blood draw go more smoothly.
The appointment
During the appointment, we will ask you some questions about your sex life. These questions can be of an intimate nature, but it is important to answer them honestly. Questions are asked to see how high your risk has been for contracting an STD. Based on your answers, together we decide which STD tests are most appropriate for you. There are different packages that can be taken. You decide together with the doctor/nurse which STD tests will be taken.
Collection of test materials
Test materials will then be taken. To test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas and mycoplasma in the penis, you will need to urinate into a jar (if you did not bring morning urine). To test for chlamydia and gonorrhea in the vagina and/or anus, you will need to swab the walls of the vagina or rectum internally ten times with a cotton swab, then insert the swab into a tube. You may do this yourself on the toilet and, of course, if you prefer the doctor to do it for you, this is also possible. For testing chlamydia and gonorrhea in the throat, we use a cotton swab to swab in the throat. The blood draw for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C we will do.
We use only clean needles
We are sometimes asked if the needles are clean, we want to emphasize that the needles are clean and can only be used once. The needles cannot be used multiple times because the doctor will prick himself.
Receiving the results
After taking test materials, a colleague will explain how you will receive the test results. We at Onedayclinic provide a unique code with which you can retrieve the test results via the website after 1-3 business days. Finally, you pay for the tests (credit card payment not possible, only pin or cash). The test material is collected by the laboratory, and the results are available within 1-3 business days. It is also possible to do a rapid test with us, then you will have the results after only 90 minutes! Schedule an appointment directly for an anonymous STD test.
Key steps
- Wait to test until the test is reliable. Do you have symptoms? If so, you can often come in for testing before then!
- If you are male or have a penis, make sure you do not urinate 2 hours before the appointment or bring morning urine.
- If you want to have blood drawn or think it is necessary, please drink plenty before coming to the appointment. The needles are clean and cannot be reused.
- Payment can be made by debit card or cash (no credit cards). If paying by cash, please bring the money in cash.
- Treatment can also take place anonymously and can often take place the same day after a quick test.
