Swingers have an average of 12 sex partners per six months. That's what research by the GGD has shown. The same research shows that people who swing, or singles who have sex with swingers, more often have unsafe sexual contact than average. Swingers, or singles who have sex with swingers, therefore run a greater risk of contracting an STI.

Often a condom is used for penetration, but in case of oral sexual contact swingers often indicate that they do not use protection. Oral sexual contact can also cause an STI. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are the most common STIs in the Netherlands and can be contracted through oral contact. Torn condoms and no switching of the condom between different contacts or sex toys can also cause an STI transmission. If you swing, or if you have sexual contact with swingers, it is wise to have yourself tested regularly for STIs.
Free love, but love safely and get tested for STDs
Of course, you don't have to be a swinger to get an STI. If you often have one-night stands, or if you and your partner are in favour of freedom in love, the risk of contracting an STI is also greater. A condom is often seen as the 'killer' of a moment full of tension and is often forgotten. If you have (often) changing sexual contacts, it is wise to have yourself tested regularly for STIs.
