Sore throat, everyone suffers from it at some point. In almost all cases, people associate it with a cold or flu and don't look for any other reason behind it. That's a shame, because a sore throat can also indicate an STI!

Symptoms experienced by people include:

• swollen glands,
• redness and
• pain when swallowing.

But please note: it is entirely possible that you have NO throat symptoms, but may still have a chlamydia or gonorrhea infection in your throat. This is because an infection in the throat often causes no symptoms.

So, have you had unsafe oral sex (blow jobs, cunnilingus), but you don't have any symptoms (in your throat)? Come and get tested at One Day Clinic! Keep in mind that chlamydia and gonorrhea have an incubation period of two weeks. If you don't have any symptoms, come and get tested two weeks after your sexual contact. If you do have symptoms, you can get tested earlier than two weeks after your sexual contact.

A throat swab may sound a little scary, but you don't have to do it yourself at our clinic. The doctor or nurse on duty will take the time to explain how the test is performed. A long cotton swab is used to take a sample from the back of your throat. But don't worry, the cotton swabs don't have to go nearly as deep as they do for COVID tests!
