A positive STI test result, now what?
It can be quite scary when you are tested positive for an STD (sexually transmitted disease). Below we will briefly explain what it means and what is important to do when you get a positive test result.
First of all, it is important that you get treatment for the STD. Untreated STDs can lead to complications such as infections in various parts of the body or even liver disease and/or infertility.
There is also the risk of transmitting the STD to others as long as you don't let yourself be treated for it. So it is important not to have sex until you have received the proper treatment.
In short, it is important that you get treatment as soon as possible and until then, do not have sexual contact with others. You can make an appointment for treatment via the website of OneDayClinic or by calling 085 0703483.
During the consultation before treatment, we will explain the positive test result, the STD concerned and the consequences for you. It is also often important to tell sexual partners that you have had in the past weeks or months about your positive test result. We understand that this can be difficult, it is also possible to let your partners know anonymously.
In some cases, it is compulsory to report a positive result to the GGD (municipal health service).
Once you have been treated, in many cases it is important to continue to pay attention. We can advise you on whether it is useful to retest and if so, when. A retest to see if the STI is gone can be done 4 - 6 weeks after the treatment.
In some cases it is necessary to wait with having sex and not masturbate until the treatment has done its work. This will be discussed in detail during the consultation before the treatment.
