New: your PrEP care at OneDayClinic is covered by your deductible!

The problem:
- PrEP is nog niet toegankelijk genoeg voor àlle mensen met een verhoogd risico op HIV, zeker niet voor mensen met een kleine portemonnee
- In fact, the STD tests you need to do for PrEP are expensive; they cost about $1,000.00 per year. For many people a big threshold if you have to pay for it yourself
- The GGD (where testing is free) is almost everywhere full and unfortunately no new spots are coming up for the time being
- At the GP, STD testing is reimbursed from the deductible, but not every GP has enough time to counsel people on PrEP. Also, not every family doctor wants to prescribe PrEP.
Our solution:
- At OneDayClinic, anyone can get immediate right away!
- As of now, the STD testing for PrEP at OneDayClinic can also be reimbursed by your health insurance (first from your deductible) if you are referred to us by your primary care physician.
- The mandatory deductible is a minimum of 385 and a maximum of 885 per year. You pay this amount yourself.
- Has your deductible run out? Then all subsequent costs you incur in that year will be fully covered by your health insurance company, just like at the GP. So that saves you up to 600 euros!
| Step 1 - Ask your primary care physician for referral via ZorgDomein | |
| Step 2 - Book your PrEP intake at OneDayClinic | |
| Step 3 - Checkout directly at OneDayClinic | |
| Step 4 - Submit our invoice to your health insurance company. | |
| Step 5 - The cost will be deducted from your deductible | |
| Step 6 - Own risk used up? Then everything else is free |
PrEP care reimbursed with GP referral
Good news! Starting in April 2023, it will be possible to be referred by your primary care physician to OneDayClinic for reimbursed PrEP care. This is not a requirement to access PrEP care, but this referral will save you money. For example, you may be able to get back some of the costs incurred during the PrEP course and perhaps all of it if you have already used up your deductible that year on other health care expenses. This is because the costs for the mandatory STD tests (which are basically done every three months) are fully reimbursed after your deductible for that year is used up. Read more about what the approximate cost per PrEP appointment at OneDayClinic is here.
In most cases, PrEP care is reimbursed if you get a referral from your doctor. Check with your own health insurance company.
How does this work practically?
1 - the intake
If you have received a referral from your doctor via ZorgDomein, you can make your own appointment online or by calling 085-070 34 83 for a PrEP intake at your nearest OneDayClinic location. In this initial consultation, a doctor or nurse will discuss PrEP with you, explain the process at OneDayClinic and answer all your questions. Want to read more about PrEP? Then read our detailed information page on PrEP.
At the end of this intake consultation, you bill yourself for the consultation with us. You pay directly in the clinic by pin or cash. Afterwards we will send you an invoice. You submit this invoice to your health insurance company. The health insurance company will then deduct the costs from your deductible. Once you have used up your deductible for that year, you will be reimbursed for all costs above that amount. You will then receive money back from your insurance company.
2 - the check-ups
If you use PrEP, you usually need to come for check-ups every 3 months. Unfortunately, at the moment it is still necessary to get a new referral from your family doctor for each check-up appointment. We are working to change this in the future so that a referral is only needed once.
Please note that you can only recover the costs after you have used up your deductible in full. How high your deductible is depends on the package you have with your insurer and can be between 385 and 885 euros. Your deductible can be spent on PrEP care, but can also be used for other health care expenses.
Frequently asked questions:
Are PrEP pills also reimbursed?
No, currently you always pay for the medication yourself at the (online) pharmacy. PrEP pills are not yet reimbursed by health insurance companies. The current price at various pharmacies and online providers is tracked at prepnu.nl.
What does my primary care physician get to hear about me?
Your doctor likes to get updates about your PrEP care, such as test results and prescriptions dispensed. Would you like certain things not to be passed on to your doctor in our feedbacks? If so, please let us know so we can take them into consideration.
I already receive PrEP through OneDayClinic, what should I do?
Would you like to get your PrEP appointments reimbursed from now on? Contact your primary care physician and ask for a referral via ZorgDomein. Once you have received a referral, you can from then on submit the invoices for all subsequent appointments to your health insurance company. The general practitioner can easily find us via diagnostics - laboratory - OneDayClinic on ZorgDomein. Also, during your next consultation at OneDayClinic, ask for a leaflet, which you can hand to your GP. In this leaflet we explain exactly what your GP needs to do for the referral and what we do in the PrEP process.
Are STD treatments also covered?
No, no invoice of the treatments can be submitted to your insurer. Is an STD found during the check-up? Then you have the choice to either get treatment at OneDayClinic (you have to pay for this yourself) or to get treatment at your doctor's office (the medication costs will be deducted from your deductible). We can send your results directly to your doctor, so this is very easy. It is important that your doctor sends us a message when the treatment has been given.
Can I visit only with a doctor's referral?
No, you can also book a PrEP appointment at OneDayClinic without a referral. However, if you want to take advantage of the reimbursement by your health insurance company, you need a referral from your doctor.
