The risks of blowjobs without a condom
- You can get an STD through sex. Especially through sex without a condom. So also by giving or receiving oral sex.
- Vooral gonorroe, syfilis, chlamydia en herpes kun je makkelijk krijgen als je iemand pijpt zonder condoom
- A person can have and pass on an STD without that person having symptoms.
- Therefore, it is best to always use a condom or a dental flap. Make sure you have them with you when you are going to have oral sex.
- You can buy condoms anywhere, such as online, at the supermarket, pharmacy or drugstore.
- Do you have a new partner? Then for complete security, use condoms in the first 3 months. Then get both of you tested if you want to have sex without a condom.
STD due to unsafe blowjobs
Sucking without a condom - like "the act" itself - is not entirely without risk. In fact, if you blow someone without a condom, you can contract an STD; it counts as unsafe sex. Especially if you have many alternating sex partners and give unsafe blowjobs, you have an increased risk of contracting chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in particular. OneDayClinic tells you all about the risks of sucking (or being sucked) without a condom.
Can you get an STD from blowing without a condom?
When you suck someone who has an STD, you run the risk of being infected. Of course, this also applies to the opposite situation: you can get infected when you allow yourself to be sucked by someone who has an STD. If you are not sure if your sex partner has an STD, it is therefore advisable to always use a condom - even when giving a blowjob.
Not everyone is aware that blowing without a condom already counts as "unsafe sex. In the eyes of many people, "sex" is only penetration of the vagina or anus. We often see men with complaints of pain during urination at OneDayClinic's office who go to escorts or have changing partners, for example. If you ask if they have had unsafe sex, the answer is often "NO!". If we then ask whether they have also been sucked without a condom, the answer is often 'Yes'! We then explain that this does explain contracting an STD.
What STDs can you catch by blowing without a condom?
When you give someone a blowjob without a condom or let someone give you a blowjob without a condom, you can contract a number of STDs:
- By unsafe blowjobs, you can saddle your partner with chlamydia. Chlamydia can settle in the throat and in the penis. The chance of transmission of this STD to and from the throat is not very high, but it is possible.
- For gonorrhea the same applies as for chlamydia: gonorrhea can also manifest itself in both the throat and on the penis. However, the risk of infection is high with oral sex (both blowjobs and cupping), and gonorrhea can also be found in saliva; therefore, infection through tongue kissing and by using saliva as lubricant is also possible.
- Also, the risk of syphilis is high if you give unsafe blowjobs, but especially if you do so with someone from a high-risk group: a sex worker or a man who has sex with men. You can get syphilis both in your throat and on your penis. Because syphilis spots are painless and can be deep in the throat, people often don't notice that their throat is infectious.
- Hepatitis B You can also get it through oral sex. The risk of contracting hepatitis B is not very high when you blow someone without a condom, because the virus is mainly found in blood, semen and vaginal fluids. However, there are some factors that increase the risk: for example, you are more at risk if you get or swallow pre-cum or semen in your mouth. Also, if you have wounds in or on your mouth, inflamed gums or an infection from one of the above STDs, for example, the hepatitis B virus can be transmitted more easily.
- De kans om HIV te krijgen bij orale seks is heel erg klein, dit komt bijna nooit voor. Je krijgt HIV vooral via besmet bloed. Pas dus op voor bloed en wondjes aan de mond of penis.
- Herpes is an STD that is often spread through oral sex. If someone has a cold sore and then gives oral sex, they can get genital herpes as a result. You can also catch a cold sore if you suck or go down on someone with genital herpes. The sores/blisters are very contagious, but people can be contagious even when they have no symptoms at the time. Therefore, the majority of people eventually become carriers of the virus.
- HPV can also be spread through blowjobs. If someone has genital warts and you blow them, you can get warts on your face or throat as a result. Fortunately, only about 1% of people who get infected with HPV actually get a wart, so the chances of you getting symptoms from the HPV infection are slim. Moreover, your body clears the infection itself, so no treatment is needed.
My partner did not cum in my mouth, can I still have contracted an STD?
Yes, it is certainly possible, if your partner does not cum in your mouth then you can still contract an STD. When you get semen or pre-cum in your mouth, the chance of getting infected does increase if we are talking about chlamydia, gonorrhea or hepatitis B. For an STD such as syphilis, herpes and HPV, it does not matter if there was ejaculation. This is because these STDs are contracted through skin-to-skin contact or contact with mucous membranes. The risk of HIV and hepatitis is increased primarily by the presence of blood and wounds, not so much by ejaculation.
When is it safe to blow without a condom?
If you are sure that you and your regular partner both do not have an STD and are not having sex with other people, then you can safely have unprotected sex without fear of infection. You can know this for sure by getting both of you tested. In doing so, you should keep in mind that a test never turns positive immediately after infection. STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can be reliably tested 2 weeks after sex. From 3 months after the last risk, all STD tests are at their maximum reliability. Many people therefore choose to still use condoms for the first 3 months of their relationship and then both get tested. Then they are sure it is safe to do without after that.
