The GGD STI test is free when you are under 25 years old. If you are afraid that you have contracted an STD, you want to be sure about it soon. Also when you have sex with men as a man, or when you work in prostitution, you are eligible for an STD test at the GGD.
But what if you're over 25 years old and you don't belong to any of these risk groups? Or if you think that the waiting times, which vary from a few weeks to even a few months at the GGD, are too long?
The doctor is of course a good option, but not if you prefer to remain anonymous!
In all establishments At OneDayClinic you can have yourself tested for STDs anonymously, reliably and quickly. The tests are not free of charge, but the rates are competitive, and often you can visit us the same day. You will hear the results within 2 working days.
For the tests and treatments the same guidelines are used as for an STD test at the GGD.
Prices of a GGD STI test
Whether you have a GGD STD test in Nijmegen or go to the GGD in Eindhoven for an STD test, an STD test at the GGD is free of charge at all locations, if you belong to one of the mentioned risk groups.
Unfortunately, a number of years ago the subsidy for the Municipal Health Service (GGD) was drastically reduced, as a result of which people who do not belong to these groups, but do want to be tested, are no longer eligible. If you do not fall within these at-risk groups, you cannot have an STI test at the Municipal Health Service (GGD).
Anyone can go to their doctor for an STD test. The cost of a test varies. If you have already 'used up' your excess, the test will be reimbursed by the insurance company. But if your own risk is still open, you can be very expensive.
The following prices are charged at OneDayClinic: A basic test for chlamydia and gonorrhea costs 100 euros (at 1 location), and a comprehensive test, in which syphilis, hepatitis B and C and HIV are also tested, costs 150 euros.
Questions about an STD test at the GGD
The most important STDs that can be tested for are chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and HIV. In an interview with a doctor or nurse you will be asked what you have done to estimate which STDs you have been at risk of. Sometimes it is necessary, for example, to test at more than one location. You can also catch chlamydia or gonorrhoea in your throat or in your anus.
Whether you want to go to the Municipal Health Service (GGD) in The Hague for an STI test or have an STI test done in Nijmegen, the same procedure is used at every location of the GGD.
How does an SOA test at the GGD work?
For testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, men use a urine test. In women, a vaginal swab (a kind of swab with a cotton cane) is more reliable. You can take that swab from yourself.
An anus-cultivation can also be done by yourself, a throat-cultivation is difficult on your own. It's done for you.
The other STD's are shown by means of a blood test. A tube of blood will be taken from you for this purpose.
If you have seen something in yourself, such as skin defects, or if you have noticed something else that worries you, you can of course also discuss it and a physical examination can be carried out.
If you decide to come to the OneDayClinic for an SOA test, the approach for the test will be the same. If you have any other questions about your sexual health, you can also contact one of our doctors anonymously.
How do I know if I am eligible for a GGD STI test?
Not sure if you qualify for a free STI test at the GGD? Then contact the GGD in your area. Call the Municipal Health Service (GGD) in The Hague if you want to have an STI test there. If you live near Nijmegen, you can apply for a GGD test there.
Do you not fall within the at-risk groups, but do you have complaints and do you want to get tested? Then fill in our test guide in. This gives advice on which STIs you should get tested on. You're not sure? Then contact a specialist!
