Anonymous testing  No waiting times = quick testing

You have recently had unsafe sex and now you want to do an STI test at the doctor. Maybe not something you're waiting for, but it's necessary. An untreated STI can seriously affect your health. Probably an STI test at the doctor's will come to you first, but you have several options when it comes to having an STI test carried out. On this page you can read about the differences between having an STI test at your doctor or at OneDayClinic.

Difference 1: anonymous test and STI test result

If you want to be tested for STIs, you have several options. If you let your doctor do this, it will never be completely anonymous. Of course, your GP is discreet and keeps to his duty of confidentiality, but the consultation will be processed in your medical file. The results of the STI test will also be added to your medical file.

As an alternative to the STI test at the GP, you can have an anonymous STI test done at the GGD. However, since 2015 there are strict rules. You can only go there if you belong to a risk group and/or are younger than 20 years old. Moreover, waiting times are often long and people are regularly referred to the GP for a test.

An anonymous test at OneDayClinic

You want to take a really anonymous STI test? In the clinic of OneDayClinic we never ask for your name, we find anonymity very important. Both making an appointment and the consultation and tests in the laboratory are completely anonymous. So you will also receive the results of the STI test completely anonymously.

Difference 2: the cost of an STI test

Contrary to what many people think, an STI test at a doctor's is not free of charge. The conversation with the GP in which you discuss your complaints and indicate that you would like to have a test done will be reimbursed by your health insurance company. However, the actual research is not free of charge. The costs for this are deducted from your own risk.

The costs for an STI test at the GP vary from € 40,- to € 300,-. This means that in many cases you have to pay for an STI test yourself; the deductible is set at € 385,- in 2017. So be alert and see how much excess you have left; this prevents surprises afterwards.

STI test at a GP more expensive than at OneDayClinic

At OneDayClinic, we work with fixed prices. Therefore, in many cases we are cheaper than a general practitioner. For example, we can offer a basic test for €100. Here we test you for both gonorrhea and chlamydia. With an extensive test we examine you for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, hepatitis B and C and HIV. The comprehensive STD test costs €150.

However, additional costs are always possible. If the consultation shows that you have been at risk in several places (besides the penis or vagina also the mouth or anus), it may be necessary to take additional tests. Read here more information about the costs of an STI test at OneDayClinic.

Difference 3: the result

If you have an STI test done by a doctor, it can sometimes take a relatively long time before the results are known. This is different for each doctor. It also depends on the laboratory your doctor works with. Usually it takes 7 to 10 days before the results of the test are available.

Within 2 working days the results at OneDayClinic

In our clinics, an STI test only takes 20 minutes. Moreover, the test result is always known within two working days. You can then view the results online via us test results portal. At OneDayClinic everything is completely anonymous, you are helped quickly and know where you stand in the short term.

Difference 4: opening hours

A consultation and an STI test can only be done by your doctor on working days. If you work during office hours, this can be very awkward.

Extended opening hours at OneDayClinic

Our soak clinic in Amsterdam has long opening hours. From Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 to 20:00 hours you can come to us for a consultation. You can also make an appointment at the weekend; we are also open on Saturdays from 12:00 to 20:00. Our clinic in Utrecht is open seven days a week. The opening hours can be found on the page STI test Utrecht.

Difference 5: waiting times

A general practitioner is often not directly available for a consultation and an STI test; a general practitioner sees a lot of patients with different complaints every day. In addition, for the results of the test you are dependent on the pressure at the affiliated laboratory. It can therefore take a relatively long time before the test is taken and you have the results.

No waiting at OneDayClinic

Because OneDayClinic is fully dedicated to the detection and testing of STIs, you can often visit OneDayClinic the same day. We always keep a number of emergency places available. An STI test takes a maximum of twenty minutes and you will receive the results within two working days.
